Women of the Word (WOW)

Wednesday Morning WOW:

Live Full, Walk Free: Set Apart in a Sin-Soaked World

Wednesday mornings (9:00 – 11:00 AM)
Meets January 9 – April 3 (13 sessions)
Facilitator:  Cindy VanWyk
Contact / Coordinator:  Linda Woldring
Room 166

In this Bible study book and DVD series, author Cindy Bultema explores Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians and shows how we, as believers today, can navigate our way in a wayward and confused culture. She reveals how Paul wrote his letter to the Corinthians – the “Sin City” of its day – to help them cultivate holy lives not by their own strength but through the power of Jesus Christ.

Touching on themes of identity, unity, purpose, and purity, this study will equip us to live holy and abundant lives in a sin-soaked world and to handle each situation with truth and grace.

This study will include DVD presentations and small group discussions, along with lessons focusing on time spent with God.

For more information or to sign up, contact Lori at 616.796.3361 or lorib@christmemorial.org.

Child Care is available for infants and toddlers while parent or guardian attends this study.

Ruby’s Tuesday Morning WOW:

Traveling Mercies – Some Thoughts on Faith

Tuesday mornings (7:30 – 8:30 AM)
Coordinator: Ruby Kickert
Meets in the Holland Hospital Café

Women are invited to join this study and discussion group as they begin the fall season reading Traveling Mercies by  Anne Lamott. Traveling Mercies is a chronicle of faith and spirituality that is at once tough, personal, affectionate, wise, and very funny Lamott’s faith isn’t about easy answers, which is part of what endears her to believers as well as nonbelievers. Against all odds, she came to believe in God and then, even more miraculously, in herself. As she puts it, “My coming to faith did not start with a leap but rather a series of staggers.” At once tough, personal, affectionate, wise, and very funny, Traveling Mercies tells in exuberant detail how Anne Lamott learned to shine the light of faith on the darkest part of ordinary life, exposing surprising pockets of meaning and hope.

The Magnificent Obsession – Embracing the God-Filled Life

Tuesday evenings (6:30 – 8:30 PM)
This on-going study begins again on January 8
Coordinator: Cindi Lampen
Room 160 / 161

Are you missing the Essential to a joyful, purpose-filled life?  Has your faith lost its fire…or even its meaningfulness?  Are you a good person, working hard, contributing to your community, yet find life is somehow incomplete and hollow at the core?  Are you restless in your spirit, with a nagging sense that there just has to be something more?  Author Anne Graham Lotz has known this struggle, too.  As she searched for answers to her heart’s yearning and emptiness, Abraham walked out of the pages of her Bible and into her life. Abraham’s life was full of twists and turns, riches and losses, deceit and redemption, failure and success.  Nevertheless, his story held the key to satisfying Anne’s hungry heart.  The key: embracing a God-filled life.  Step by step.  Choice by choice.  Day by day.  Despite struggling, as we all do, with compromise, fear, family, quarrels, doubt, and disappointment, in the end, Abraham knew God…as His friend.

Through personal anecdotes, unforgettable stories, and inspiring insights, in this DVD / book study Anne Graham Lotz will share with us the answers she found as she embraced the God-filled life.  Women are invited to join this close-knit prayer, study, and discussion group.

Agape Circle

Monthly, Second Tuesday (7:00 – 9:00 PM)
Meets through June ▪ Just show up
This on-going study continues on January 8
Each chapter begins a new study!  Join at any time!
Contacts: Sherrill Mulder, Kathy Lubbers & Kathy VanDerHulst
Room 166

Women are welcome to join this group in their ongoing study of Max Lucado’s book Cast of Characters – a collection of stories about common people: story after story marked by scandal, stumble, and intrigue. Who are these people? They’re the people of the Bible.  And they’re us.  We find our story in theirs.  We find our hope where they found theirs – in the hands of an Uncommon God. This study is both biblical and conversational. (If you are interested in being part of this study but the second Tuesday time frame doesn’t work for you, join the Freedom Village Circle instead.  Both Circles are using the same material although the structure might be slightly different.) (Book cost: $9.00.  If needed, scholarships are available. Contact Lori at lorib@christmemorial.org.)

Faithfulness Circle

Monthly, Third Thursday (9:30 – 11:00 AM)
A new study begins on January 17
Meets through May ▪ Just show up!
Contacts: Millie Snyder & Wilma Winkels
Teacher: Tam Velderman
Room 168 / 169

Women are welcome to join this Bible study and discussion group. The winter study will be Miracles of Jesus.

“Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written” (John 21:25, NIV).  Can you imagine – if all of the witnesses of our Lord’s miracles were to have put pen to paper (or reed and quill to papyrus) and given their first-hand account of His miraculous actions, how many versions we’d have to read?!  In our winter study we’ll be limiting it to just four, thankfully: the miracles of Jesus as revealed in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

Come join in this study of the miracles chronicled in the New Testament Gospels – we’ll experience the POWER (dynamis), the SIGNS (semeion),  and WONDER (teras) that will lead us to witness together Jesus’ supernatural control that demonstrates to us His love and limitless compassion, His divine nature and absolute authority as the Son of God, and ultimately bringing us to glorify His Father!

Bring your Bible when you come.  You’ll grow not only through the monthly reading, but also from the discussion that takes place.
