The 10 Big Questions Jesus Asks series.
Jesus is asking a common sense question that is grounded in His desire to have people live full life. He does not want us to be conflicted or to declare something we are not prepared to act on. Jesus would rather not have us start to follow Him if we are not prepared to receive the incredible blessing of completely following Him.
Jesus is a paradoxical Lord. He desires to rule, lead, master, and dominate our lives for our sake. All other potential “lords” desire that position for their own power but Jesus desires to be our Lord for our sake. He urges those He is teaching, and us, to start following Him and to finish. To follow Him all of our lives and receive the life He has created us for.
Maybe the imbedded question is, “Do we believe Him to be Lord and want Him to be yours?”
